Coffee shops are the fuel for so many people. The feeling of holding a fresh cup of heaven, right before heading to work, puts the mind at ease. The smell and taste help to wake the brain, and motivate the day.
Remembering back in the day, my Grandpa would pour me a cup and let me add sugar as we waited for everyone else to wake up.
Living in Texas, my friend Pete and I would head to the nearest coffee shop to trial each coffee, finding the ones that we loved the best. Even to this day, when he visits, we still do this tradition.
When I was pregnant with both my children, coffee was my saving grace. There were plenty of stressful times, and the cold or warm deliciousness was my best friend. My daughter was a Starbucks baby, and my son was a Dunkin’ Donuts baby.
While my mother was receiving chemo for cancer, we would stop by Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee and a donut. It was happy times, to equal out the bad times ahead.
In Hawaii, while my children were in school for a few hours, I would travel to the nearest Starbucks to sit and wait. I would work on my business, drink coffee, and enjoy the free time I had with myself.
Needing a break from the hard homeschool days, my friend Maggie and I would head to Target and enjoy Starbucks while walking around shopping. It was what we needed to make the day better. Coffee & Friends!
During the days of HOC President/ Co-Leader, I would invite the rest of the HOC to come to Starbucks and run ideas with the other leader and I. What were we going to do with the students? What programs could we help the school with? On some occasions, we used the time to create our STEAM nights and other events for the school.
On some occasions, my daughter and I would both need to work on some type of work, so we would head to a coffee shop to work on our assignments. The time spent together was always special, and we always treated ourselves to a coffee and a snack.
Hawaii to Michigan, coffee was sent to Nanny each month. It was a special thing we would do with her while she was alive. In her kitchen is an old mason jar coffee grinder that I am in love with. I believe it is still there today.
On hard mornings or hard days, my husband is always there to either brew me a cup or bring me home a cup of coffee. He always knows how to calm my soul!
Walking into my favorite Starbucks or Panera, there is always a friendly face, a friendly image, or a friendly activity. There is always one!
Maybe it’s not missing the coffee shops, maybe it’s missing the people and places, and memories that coffee brought me.
Each time I try to quit coffee I can’t because the memories are too much to lose.
